Save the Date Postcards are on Their Way

Disclaimer: I don’t believe that Save the Dates are always necessary for a wedding. Nor do I feel that they have to be very elaborate. If you have a lot of guests coming from out of town and/or a lot of guests who might not get the memo by word of mouth, however, they might be a good idea.

So I ordered our Save the Date postcards and they are officialy on their way. I created them myself using my li’l ol’ point and shoot camera and my minimal/questionable Photoshop skills.

I knew I wanted them to have a hint of Detroit and be something a little different. So I pulled an old Detroit Free Press out of our coat closet and took a picture of it on our living room floor. I colored out the main headlines and added in my own text and image.

Save the Date Front

For the back, I just put in some text and the same Detroit skyline image I used for my bridesmaid invitations.

Save the Date Back

The work of a professional graphic designer it is not. But I think it looks decent enough to send out. I happened to have a credit from a previous order at GotPrint.com so I ordered from them and only had to pay about $7 extra to have my postcards printed and shipped. Despite the fact that we are inviting 200 people, I only ordered 100 STDs. I figured everyone doesn’t need one, and for those who do, a lot of people live in the same household. Just saving pennies where I can.

Of course this is just the digital version, so I’ll post again when they arrive.

Guest Count

So.

It was brought to my attention a few days ago that I may not be clear as to how many guests we’re inviting. Right now we’re somewhere between 200 and 250. For some people this may seem like a lot. For others this may seem small. We’ve already made some cuts, and at this point neither of us wants to make any more cuts.

So that’s where we stand. Or rather, that’s how many guests we’ll need to seat.

Guestbook Pages

I don’t really want a standard issue white guestbook with single lines for everyone to cram in theirnamesandaddresses. Not really my thing. What I would like is something more memorable and meaningful for both our guests and us. I hadn’t put much thought into it yet, but I came across this post by Mrs. Eggplant at Weddingbee. I love the idea and it looks like another fairly easy diy project.

Basically, she designed the guestbook page herself and printed it on cardstock paper. There are questions for the guests to answer and keep them occupied. I can easily see this coming in handy as a conversation-starter.

The guests take a polaroid of themselves with cameras provided by the bride and groom and peel and stick it to the page. Afterward, all the pages can be arranged in a keepsake-style book.

Escort Card Tents

I like these escort cards seen over at The Bride’s Cafe. They seem like they’d pretty inexpensive but still kinda stylish. And I think they’d be easy to diy. I imagine it would go something like this.

  1. Create a square template, with maybe 6 per page
  2. Print each page with names on the cards
  3. Flip the same paper around in the printer and print the table numbers on the reverse side
  4. Cut the squares out with a paper cutter
  5. Fold the squares on the diagonal

You could a nice cardstock and black ink with a nice font. Very easy diy.

Whaddya think?
