Real Wedding: Ja’Lisa and Jaye

So I’ve been waiting for these pictures from our friend and photographer, Elton, for a long time. We actually went to school with Ja’Lisa and Jaye. I already knew their day would be beautiful and whaddyaknow, I was right. My favorite, by far, is the last picture. Just something about all that empty space that I really love.

Check out the original post at Elton’s blog, complete with his commentary.

Enjoy

Real Wedding: Shelley and Charles

This is another wedding brought to you by my friend and photographer, Elton Anderson.

While all the pictures are nice, my favorite is undoubtedly the one where she’s standing in the aisle with her father.

Enjoy :-)

Real Wedding: Yvette and Myron

I very rarely post real weddings, but I figured that it’s time for a change. Unless otherwise noted, pictures are courtesy of my friend and photographer, Elton Anderson.

First up, Yvette and Myron. I’m not sure where they got married, but the venue looks oh-so-homey and oh-so-comfortable.

Enjoy :-)

Detroit Park Shelton Rooftop Wedding

I read Model D on a regular basis. It’s a really good stuff for positive stuff happening all across Detroit. They recently featured an article about a couple’s wedding that took place on the roof of the Park Shelton. I knew the Park Shelton was recently renovated and being occupied, but I had no idea the rooftop was accessible and usable.

The premise for the wedding was the couple bringing their guests from around the country to their destination wedding in Detroit, the place they now call home. The guests were all pleasantly surprised to find that Detroit isn’t exactly the wasteland they thought it would be. They was plenty to do and see and the experience was better than they expected.

The pictures probably don’t even do it justice. The view makes the city look beautiful. And the couple, Brad and Dana, look like they had a great time.

Congratulations to them!

Westcheser, NY Wedding on a Budget

I just found this CNN story about a Westchester,NY bride on a budget.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/personal/06/20/wedding.budget/index.html

Some of the tips are things you typically hear, like having the wedding in the afternoon rather than the evening.

But there were a few good tips, like considering renting a cake instead of buying one. I’d never heard of this before, but it doesn’t sound like a horrible idea.

Inexpensive Vegas Reception

So apparently, my major malfunction is easily overcome in Las Vegas.

Today, Miss Dumpling at WeddingBee posted about her reception venue, which is about 20 minutes from the strip. That aside, it covers all the main issues I’m having. She has a guest list of about 200-250 people and they can bring their own caterer and liquor. And from what I understand, it won’t cost much more than 10k.

Surely, when you compare Vegas to Detroit and the costs of living/economy in said cities, I should be able to enjoy the same luxuries as Miss Dumpling for the same or less money.

Anyway. Her venue looks beautiful. Congrats to her and keep your fingers crossed for me.

$8,800 Made to Look Like Much More

I’m a regular WeddingBee reader so I’ve read most of Ms. Tulip’s posts. One of her recent posts caught me by surprise though.

She talked about their wedding budget and offered some budget tips too. It looks super luxurious and it has lots of personal touches. I never would have guessed judging by everything Ms. Tulip posted that their wedding only cost $8,800!

The Tulips splurged and saved on different areas than we would, but I think the decisions they made made everything come together so nicely.

Read the entire post about the Tulips’ Wedding Budget.

Detroit Guardian Building Wedding

Thank you thank you thank you! to Kathryn at Snippet and Ink who was kind enough to point me in the direction of this wonderful wedding. I love it for so many reasons:

The bride Amanda was kind enough to provide the details of a few of her vendors. I’ll definitely be giving them a call. As for the venue, I knew the Guardian building was nice, but these photos say that it’s fabulous. I’m a simple girl by nature, but who can resist those elaborate art deco details.

I’ll definitely keep this wedding close for inspiration. How could I resist?

A Stylish Real Wedding on a Budget

Check out this wedding recently featured on Snippet & Ink. It has several characteristics that I think very highly of.

  • non-traditional venue
  • lots of DIY touches
  • vases purchased at IKEA
  • paper lanterns
  • a 13k budget for 150 guests

This couple did an excellent of job of staying true to their own style while also staying true to their checkbooks. I can only hope to be so talented.
