Polaroid Pogo Instant Camera

In thinking about our guestbook, you know me, I wanted something different. But of course that something different comes at a premium cost. Ideally, we’d do a photobooth like the ones at The Photobooth Company, but at $1000 for the least expensive package, that’s clearly not in the budget. So, I found an alternative.

Polaroid Pogo Instant Camera

The Polaroid Pogo camera. This is Polaroid’s new instant camera that’s so new, it’s barely even available in stores. This digital camera prints 2″x 3″ pictures with sticky backs. This would be perfect because guests could print their own pictures, stick them on a page in the guestbook and sign them. But alas, this little camera is $200.

I know $200 is a lot less than thte $1000 for the photobooth, but when you’re working with a 12k budget, thats $200 too much.

So what should I do? Any suggestions for an alternative?

Although it’s a cheaper alternative, I would be considered with somebody walking off with it (accidental or otherwise). You could DIY your photobooth. Basically corner off an area and set up a camera on a tripod with directions on the side of how to use it. I’ve also heard of couples that use a laptop that has a camera and once the pic is taken it’s printed out on the side with a photo printer. I’m sure Google will be your best friend on this one.

I had just heard about the polaroid instant camera the other day, but Michelle makes a good point of someone taking it by accident. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to have a photo booth too, some of the ideas I had are similar to Michelle’s – using a camera, tripod & remote then having the pictures printed on a pogo printer, some people use Polaroid cameras – get them on ebay or someone selling them on weddingbee classifieds and I have also heard some photographers offer this as an option.

I just took a look at the amazon page, and it looks like this camera only comes with 10 photo sheets, and the battery only lasts for 20 photos! That would be way too much trouble to have someone recharge after every 20 pictures, and too much money to buy a bunch of extra batteries. :/

…Actually, it looks like it comes with ‘AC adapter/charger’, so maybe you can just plug it in and not use the battery? I think as long as no one needs to keep checking on it to refill the paper/check the battery it could be an awesome idea. You’ll have to consider the cost of extra photo paper, though.

That’s a great option, and I hadn’t heard of it before. Nice! We have a photographer that is including a self-made photobooth free with our package. We’ll be encouraging guests to add it to our guest book. But our other idea is to have guests write us notes on colored paper and put them into a large apothocary jar. I can’t wait to read all the notes!!!

Another idea would be to use a digital camera, a digital clock, and some note card sheets.

Have the guests take a picture themselves, then write a note and put the time shown on the clock on the back of the note card (which is set to the same time as your cameras clock)

Then you can print the pictures at a photo lab and match them based on what time they were taken. Each picture will have a timestamp that should match the time they jot down on the back.

This way it ends up being $0.16 per print instead of around $1.50 a print with a Polaroid.

Polaroid has a printer version of this camera.. its the PoGo instant Mobile Printer. You can just use your own digital camera and still have it printed right away with this printer so that guests can still stick it to the page and sign next to it. I’m planning a 10k wedding for next summer and this is what I plan on doing. They have it at target for $50 right now!

here is an idea, you can make a book with some white space for signatures and notes. Each page can contain pictures of you and your beau or pictures that coincide with your theme. make your book for low cost at http://www.blurb.com/

I like the last idea of making a photobook with white space, but it doesn’t need to include pics of just you and groom. Include older pics of you and your friends, family, and his as well. That way people will have fun looking for their pic and reminiscing on it.

I’m doing the same thing as Maira. My friend found a 12×12 scrapbook at Borders for $3.99 and we went to target & bought the pogo mobile printer for $50. They sell the film 30shots for $13 which is less expensive than buying polaroid 600 film which I couldn’t find for less than $20 anywhere. You can always have someone man the station during the wedding. Good luck!

While a book from Blurb is an awesome idea, it probably wouldn’t work as well in action. We started out having guestbooks that people just wrote on the pages of. We soon learned that people mess up or want to change their note quite a bit.

Having them write on cards that get added to the book eliminate the scratch out marks from people who want to change what they write.

I did the Polaroid version of this for a friend’s wedding back in 2000. I found paper that matched her theme at Michael’s or Wal-Mart. I also found plastic insert pages and an album that the paper fit into perfectly when folded in half. We attached the photos to the paper with photo corners and left them at the tables for guests to sign. We asked them to drop the finished pages off in a basket before they left. Worked great.

If you have a crafty friend, this would be even easier and faster with a laptop or maybe even a printer alone. You’ll want one that will let you print one image per sheet, but still leave room on the paper for notes.

Or, for the real overachievers, have prepared printable scrapbook layouts read and just insert the pages.
