Try filling them with those flattened marble glass things people sometimes put in fish bowls, you can get a bag of them at the dollar store (you would probably need 2 bags per vase). You could then leave it like that or fill it with water and stick a single tall flower in (fake or real). The look is very chic.

ps. you can do the same thing but fill it with small river rocks instead

I agree with spraypainting some branches from your yard. it’ll look chic and not tacky. and be very inexpensive!

Gladiolas are really, really tall flowers that are on the cheap side when in season (about 7$ for a 10-stem bunch). you could put 5 or so with some stones in each vase. They come in every color imaginable, too.

When I helped plan my friend’s wedding, we cut several branches from my parents back yard and spray painted them silver. We also used round, black glass stones from Hobby Lobby that filled the vase up about 2/3. They also had several other colors of stones that would work well too. On a mirror tile and surrounded by tea lights, the effect was really pretty and elegant. The vases we found at Walmart for about $2.50, the bottles of spray paint were about $0.99 each at Walmart and the bags of stones were about $2.50 as well, but one bag does about a vase and a quarter (with a 12in. vase). The mirror tiles and tea lights were supplied by the vendor. Hope this helps!

@Kendra, I *wish* there was a Old Time Pottery near me. The closest one to Detroit is in Illinois. That’s just a little too far to go for some branches. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hello!! Really like the vases. If you have an Old Time Pottery near you check them out. They have a bundle of birch branches for around $2. There’s enough branches to get 2 cps from one bundle. Then maybe you could add your flower of choice like the last picture. Good luck and keep us posted!

Forgot to mention, if you set this vase w colored water on a circular mirror with tea lights surrounding it, it will give even more elegant flair to the whole thing. all this will be much less than $5 per table..email me if you want to see pics of mine.

here is my idea- pick one of your wedding colors, or just pick a color that will pop-lets say red or blue…and use that color water in the vase. fill to about 3/4 height, and use food coloring. simple, elegant and modern.

Love the vase find! If you decide to go with branches (probably curly willow?), you could always paint them – I’ve seen this done in silver and it looks really modern, and I’m sure other colors would have great effects, too. Sometimes you only need a few branches in each one, along with some full blooms, to achieve the tall and full effect.

A flower suggestion – maybe calla lilies? If arranged right, they can stick out pretty far.

I hope you post pictures of whatever you decide on!
