Oh Hon, I feel your pain!!! I’ve been going through much the same frustrations, only add being VEGAN to the mix, w/the narrowed list of available caterers, & you can feel like you’re in a whole other universe of incompetence!! I will say though (& I have yet to blog about it…www.veganbride.com) there IS a God!! I found a RIDICULOUSLY GOOD caterer…E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G we tried at the tasting, & I mean EVERYTHING from the home-made rosemary rolls, to the soup, to the darn mango sorbet we weren’t even expecting, was the BEST WE’D EVER TASTED!! EVERYTHING!! We couldn’t believe it!! Awful, bland wedding food, bye bye…and since the food at our wedding is almost the main event in front of the BRIDE (I know my boundaries:):) this was extra important & now I feel as though I can actually sleep! Maybe I need to hook you up (are you in Detroit, hmmm), or maybe you should tell them you’re vegan so that they’ll have to step outside their comfort zone & come up w/something EXTRA dazzling!! It absolutely worked for me…however before this recent tasting, I was practically ready to jump ship!! Candy

I had this same experience with two different caterers, and I live in Virginia. It’s not just Detroit, ladies… the whole industry is wack! Maybe it’s just dealing with “artists.” They are too creative to be organized.

I dont want to bang on Detroit, but I am having these same problems with my vendors…unreturned emails/voicemails, tardiness, lack of organization…The whole point in planning my wedding in the heart of Detroit was to bring revenue to the city and show our OOT guests that all the negative media attention is one-sided. Instead, Im developing a bad taste in my mouth concerning doing business in the city for future events…

That sounds like the lesser of the evils! Even if the food is good, do you know if they’ll be able to make it to your reception on time?
