At a Stand Still

I feel like I’m on a plane at the airport taxiing on the runway. There is a definite endpoint to my travels, but because I’m stuck in this holding pattern, I’m not making any progress toward my goal.

All of my planning is pretty much on hold because I’m still trying to pin down a venue. Every time I think I’ve found one, I get my hopes up only to find that it’s not gonna work for one reason or another.

The worst part is, I feel like I can’t really plan anything else until this is resolved. I can’t do any Save the Dates or invitations because I don’t have a date or venue. I can’t look at cake cause the place we end up choosing might require that we use their baker. I can’t look at flowers or other decor, because the place we choose might have restrictions on what we can bring.

The list goes on, but you get the idea.

i am at a stand still too but I will be so happy when I find the right place and able to move. Hang in there

I know you don’t want an outdoor wedding but have you thought of having a ceremony at a park/someones backyard (with a tent)and then having dinner/reception at a restaurant with a private room?

Good luck!

My fiance and I ran into this situation, too, and we finally decided that something HAD to give. We were trying to decided to have a small lavish wedding or a big casual one, and after talking it out (and talking and talking and talking), we decided that the family is more important to us than the fancy. So instead of trying to scrape up the $$ to feel 200+ people a full meal, we’re having a fabulous cocktail reception with heavy h’our derves instead. We wanted an evening ceremony anyway, so now we’re doing 8 p.m. cocktails and an 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. ceremony, to be followed by dessert and dancing (an extensive dessert bar), and later (at 11:30 or so), by pizza and s’mores.

I was hesitant about having a cocktail reception at first, because I thought people would immediately jump to the conclusion that we’re broke, but then we realized that we literally had to make some kind of concession in order to move forward with our planning. We were stuck in exactly the same situation you are: no venue means that you can’t plan anything else, either. It was hard to give something up, but I feel so. much. better. now that we have. If you want to check out cocktail receptions, look over at this link: http://inthisinstance.blogspot.com/2008/09/garden-cocktail-reception.html. This couple had a really really lovely cocktail party, and having cocktails instead of a full-course meal might open up new venue options since that frees up money to spend elsewhere.

Good luck to you! :)
