Who Makes These Bridesmaid Dresses?

I know nothing about the dresses other than how they look. Help me please!

Venue in Detroit with Columns

Clearly I’m having a hard time finding a venue. I guess my requirements are too stiff or I have too many of them.

They are, in no particular order:

  • Must be in downtown Detroit
  • Must be less than $1500
  • Would prefer them to allow an outside caterer
  • Must hold 250-300 people

That said, meet the new object of my attention. I don’t know how much it costs yet, but everything other requirement is met.

Again, just like with the other venue hopeful I don’t want to give away the name yet, but believe me when I tell you, it is wonderful.

Here’s the only issue. The space has square columns that run throughout. They look good but I’m afraid of them obstructing the view and me not being able to set up the tables and chairs to accomodate everyone comfortably.

Has anyone had this same problem with their venue? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to work  around it?

Venue Hopes Dashed

Aw man! I’ve been foiled again!

The venue I tried not to get all excited about but got all excited about anyway won’t work for us ( insert heavy sigh here). The room they have that I really really like and that we can afford is too small.

The information the event coordinator sent me says that the room seats 200 people. Our guest list is going to be 250-300 people and even if we cut it down to 200, we still don’t think the room can accomodate a dance floor, dj table, cake table etc.

The room is perfect architecturally and with the amount of windows and location and everything…except it’s a few hundred square feet too small.

So my quest is back on.

The Venue I’d Love to Have

So…

There’s this place.

I would love to have our wedding and reception there.

Right now, they don’t allow weddings there.

Next year, they will allow weddings there.

I don’t know how much it would cost or how many people the space could accomodate.

But, I love this place.

Keep your fingers crossed for me. I think I’m only going to post the name if I’m able to get it. I’m afraid I might jinx it otherwise.

We’ll see!

No Available Detroit Lofts

I would love to have our wedding in a nice open loft space. The problem is we live in Detroit. I love the city, but it makes me so mad at times. With a city as big as ours trying to revitalize the downtown area, you’d think there’d be one or two warehouses or loft spaces suitable for holding a wedding ceremony and reception.

Well, it looks likes my plans have been foiled. Not only are there no events regularly used for this purpose or for holding events in general, the two places I’ve found on Craigslist aren’t available either.

Both of the places on Craigslist are open spaces with nice hardwood floors and lots of windows judging by the picture. The contact person happens to be a broker, though. And she’s actually looking for someone to lease the two properties. So she won’t allow me to reserve either of the buildings for one day next year. I guess I can’t blame her, but I really don’t think anyone is going to lease either of those spaces between now and then.

I’m just sayin.

$8,800 Made to Look Like Much More

I’m a regular WeddingBee reader so I’ve read most of Ms. Tulip’s posts. One of her recent posts caught me by surprise though.

She talked about their wedding budget and offered some budget tips too. It looks super luxurious and it has lots of personal touches. I never would have guessed judging by everything Ms. Tulip posted that their wedding only cost $8,800!

The Tulips splurged and saved on different areas than we would, but I think the decisions they made made everything come together so nicely.

Read the entire post about the Tulips’ Wedding Budget.

Blurb Book Giveaway

I don’t think I’ve told you guys about Blurb yet, but I came across it a few months ago and of course I was immediately taken. The tagline explains it best: Real Books. Made by You. They look so artistic and professional and are all listed at pretty reasonable prices. I planned on using the site sooner than later, but I hadn’t quite decided for what.

Well today, I found out that WeddingBee is giving away 3 Blurb gift certificates! So I entered (sidenote: I was entry #504) and commented that I would use my Blurb books as bridesmaids gifts. We’re all very close and have known each other for so long, what better way to document the occasion than with a bounded picture book.

Even I don’t win WeddingBee’s contest, I still plan on doing this. It’s too perfect an opportunity to pass up.

My First Polyvore Collage

This is my first attempt at an idea board for our wedding. I would like there to be more white but that doesn’t exactly come across here. What do you think?

Rocks on the Tables

I’m thinking about putting rocks out on the reception table among the vases, plants, grasses, or whatever else we decide to go with. I found these at RockTumblingSupplies.com.

I’m sure there are plenty of other places that sell rocks as well, but I do like their selection. And the prices don’t seem too bad. They’re about 25 lbs for 50 bucks. I think I can handle that.

It’s Officially Official Now

Whoop Whoop! We are now, officially, engaged!

We’ve both known for a while that we would get married, probably next summer. But now we are official.

And I couldn’t be happier.

::ecstatic::
::blissful::
::blessed::
::overjoyed::

I’ve been casually thinking about ideas for the wedding and keeping mental notes, but now it all becomes real and tangible.

Now the real fun begins!
